Alleged Kanye West rant targeting Taylor Swift, Pink

ImageMTV announced the nominees for the 2013 Video Music Awards on Wednesday, but the talk of the town is still the infamous incident during the 2009 show when West ripped the Moon Man trophy out of winner Taylor Swift’s hands during her acceptance speech.

Because the website published an audio recording Thursday they say is Kanye West unloading on Swift, Pink, and the recording industry in general at the Corner Bistro in Manhattan’s West Village, some time after the 2009 kerfuffle.

“I was happy to be in a situation where people couldn’t say, oh, I was trying to promote my own song. For the times that I’ve, like, defended myself… I’m pushing the envelope! I wrote my fu**in’ ‘Run This Town’ verse for a fu**in’ month! When I heard Eminem’s verse on the Drake s**t, I went back and rewrote my s**t for two days,” a man they say is West says in the recording. “I canceled appointments to rewrite! I fu**in’ care! You know what I’m saying? And that’s what I’m saying. Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé.”

The voice purported to be West’s then pulled the race card: “As long as I’m alive! And if I’m alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I’m alive, you gon’ have to deal with it. ‘Cause there ain’t gonna be no more motherfu**ing Elvises with no James Browns.”

When asked by a woman in his group why he was so angry, the voice on the recording brings up West’s mom, Donda West, who died in 2007 as a result of complications after undergoing liposuction, saying: “My mother got arrested for the f**in’ sit-ins. My mother died for this fame shit! I moved to f**kin’ Hollywood chasing this shit. My mother died because of this shit. F**k MTV.”

Then, it was Pink’s turn in the crosshairs.

“What the f**k was Pink performing? Don’t nobody know that song. Pink performed twice! Two songs? How the f**k Pink perform two songs and I didn’t even get asked to perform ‘Heartless,’” the audio continues. “‘Heartless’ is the biggest song of the year! It had the most spins of the first quarter! I don’t know that Pink song! But I noticed that she’s Pink!”

The eyebrow-raising audio had many expressing their distaste for the artist, who recently referred to himself as “God” and claimed “ego is my drug” in an interview with W magazine. Last month he released his sixth album “Yeezus,” and it quickly became his sixth consecutive number one debut.

“Disgusting” many tweeted, as others questioned how anyone can stand to even be around him.

But according to the PR experts, the audio isn’t likely to damage West’s reputation.

“Although Kanye’s behavior appears to be increasingly erratic, ultimately he will always continue to have a strong fan base due to the fact that he’s such a talented artist,” said New York-based publicist, Elissa Buchter. “The public is so desensitized to his outrageous comments by now, to the point where its almost become his calling card. A lesser musician may not be able to sustain it however definitely Kanye can.”

And pop culture writer Michael Cohen said simply that it “will never be the end of Kanye West.”

“Fans, including those in the industry, have a love and hate relationship with him. He says really inappropriate disgusting comments that get everyone irritate and remind us just how immature and classless he really is, but then he comes out with an over-the-top album so everyone forgets his last rant,” he said.

And although Swift was said to be deeply upset by the 2009 VMAs humiliation – these days she is the one having the last laugh.

“Two VMA nominations!! If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time ;),” she tweeted following the nomination announcement this week.

Reps for West, Swift, and MTV did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

And pal Adrienne Bailon also jumped to Tamera’s defense.

“Just because you only had sex with one person doesn’t mean you’re not a freak, and I think that that’s a good thing,” she says. “I think people think that you could only be a freak by doing it with a bunch of people. You can be a freak and just be a freak with one person. That is beautiful and dope,” she added as Tamara nods her head in approval.

Mowry-Housley also dished on hyphenating her last name after tying the knot, admitting she does intend to one day legally change her surname.

“Well this is the way I see it, I’ve worked really really hard for Tamera Mowry,” she explains. “I will eventually change my name to be Tamera Housley, but I’ll be Tamera Mowry—that’s going to be my acting name.”

Kate Middleton’s Due Date “Has Passed” New Hospital Report “Not True”; Couple in Bucklesbury

She’s still “wait-y Katie!” The whole entire world, it seems, is sitting on pins and needles waiting for Kate Middleton to give birth to the royal baby — and a new report in The Telegraph claims that the Duchess’ “real” due date was Friday, July 19. The British paper went on to report that staff members at London’s St. Mary’s Hospital — Kate will give birth in the swank Lindo Wing — were instructed to avoid alcohol and be on their best behavior, with an expected due date on Friday.

A Palace aide tells Us Weekly the July 19 due date report is “not true,” and adds: “Kate’s due date has passed.”

For now, Kate, 31, and Prince William are still ensconced at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury. Middleton retreated to the compound, 50 miles away from London, last weekend after scorching London temperatures — and a lack of air conditioning at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace — became too unbearable.

Whenever the Duchess does go into labor, there’s a detailed plan in place. The palace staff is “on call every day and night in July for this,” explains a palace insider to Us. “There is nothing left to prepare or plan for.”

Adds a Royal Air Force source of William, 31: “William is not on paternity leave yet but he has had to take time off work now. He did double shifts the week before he returned to London. We’re all on the edge of our seats for news. I thought the baby would be born by now!”

Kate Middleton due today? Royal watchers claim she’s not overdue as frenzy grows

LONDON — With the Duchess of Cambridge’s due date widely reported as July 13, there is now speculation that Kate Middleton is actually due today as the frenzy outside a London hospital grows.

The Daily Mail reports a source at St Mary’s Hospital staff says the royal baby is actually due today, July 19.

The means the baby could arrive as far away as August 2.

Kate herself said the baby was due “mid-July,” earlier this year.

And he may be royal, but when it comes to paternity leave Prince William is in the same boat as everyone else. Like thousands of other new fathers in Britain, he will get two weeks off when his child is born.

Along with British society, the royal family has been gradually modernizing its attitudes to birth and parenting. William’s father, Prince Charles, was present at the birth of his two sons, who were born in a hospital rather than a palace – both breaks from royal tradition. But William is the first senior royal to receive statutory paternity leave, which was introduced in Britain in 2003.

Some family campaigners say William, a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, is setting a good example in a country where until recently new fathers have taken little time off.

But others say two weeks is not enough, and argue social and economic pressures still discourage fathers from spending time looking after their newborns.

“There is an element that employers – and men themselves – are thinking of them as the ones who earn the money and stick in that role when children come along,” said Jeremy Davies of the Fatherhood Institute think tank. “It can be quite difficult to set yourself apart from that.”

Under British law, William is entitled to two weeks off at a flat pay rate of just under 137 pounds ($206) a week. He’s lucky – the military is among employers that pay more, and he will receive his full salary for the fortnight.

The government says two-thirds of new fathers take some paternity leave, but less than half take the full two weeks. Some are ineligible because they are self-employed or haven’t been at a job for at least six months. Others just can’t afford it.

Mothers, who receive the bulk of parental leave, can take up to a year off, though only 39 weeks of it is paid, and not at full salary.

The rules are changing. Under recent changes, new fathers can take up to six months leave by using up some of the year of a partner who has returned to work.

But few do. Elizabeth Gardiner of campaign group Working Families said that in the first year the flexible leave was offered, only 1,650 men in Britain took it.

She said the solution is to set aside some time off for fathers only – a practice in Scandinavia known as “daddy months.”

“If you really want fathers to take up leave you have to earmark it for them and you have to pay it properly,” she said.

That’s what they do in Sweden, where new parents can take 16 months’ paid leave, divided between the parents as they like. Two months can only be taken by the mother and two months by the father – if not, the time cannot be transferred to the partner and is forfeited.

As an incentive, it works – In 2000, Swedish men took out only 12.4 percent of parental leave; by 2010 their share had nearly doubled to 23.1 percent, according to government statistics.

At the other end of the scale is the United States, where there is no government-subsidized nationwide paid paternity leave, though some companies and a few states including California offer it. Many companies and the public sector offer unpaid leave to new fathers.

Britain is moving to offer fathers more time. Under legislation currently before Parliament, from 2015 parents will be able to split the 50 weeks of paid leave as they like.

Changing attitudes may be harder than changing the law. A recent study by the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto found that men who take on caregiving duties at home receive more abuse at work than men who stick to conventional gender roles.

“It was a pretty powerful result,” said Jennifer Berdahl, professor of organizational behavior at the Rotman School. “Men who did relatively more caregiving at home experienced a lot more `not man enough’ harassment and teasing that threatens their status in the workplace.”

Prime Minister David Cameron took two weeks’ leave when his daughter Florence was born in 2010, and it drew comment – some approving, some critical of a national leader stepping back for 14 days to look after a baby.

Jeremy Davies of the Fatherhood Institute said William was setting a good example – up to a point.

“What would be fantastic would be to see Prince William to take some time where he was the primary carer at some time during the first year,” Davies said. “That’s the stuff that leads to a really strong relationship with the child.”

The Conjuring (2013)

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Patrick Wilson has two movies coming out this year, and in both of them he’ll play the patriarch of a haunted family. To make the projects seem even more inseparable, Saw’s James Wan directs them both. Sure, Insidious: Chapter 2 has a hit first movie to build from, but The Conjuring features Mackenzie Foy, aka Renesmee – Bella and Edward Cullen’s offspring who we think might be 2x scarier than the kind of evil presence that would set its sights on a farmhouse.

So it’s easy for the studio to attract top-tier voice talent as they promote from within; in this case, storyboard vet David Soren ascends to the director’s chair, and he’s had a hand in the screenplay as well. Until we hear more, all we can picture is Cars with snails.
